animals, antiques, ANTIQUES, ceramics, COOL STUFF, things i want

Me wanty kitty.

November 17, 2011

The other day I won these off Bid or Buy. I don’t think anyone bid against me, I think I was the only one in the whole world that had any interest in these animal plates, but I couldn’t help myself, I liked them too much, especially the cat ones.

So yes, my ‘wanting a cat’ obsession has not subsided, in fact it has probably gotten worse. Just this morning I found myself taking to these plates, I was cooing over them in a crazy cat-lady voice. Shane is still cool with me getting a kitten and I really want to rescue one from Kitty Haven, but I also REALLY really want a Grey British Shorthair. I mean look at this magnificent beast! And the best part – if they don’t get a lot of exercise, they get a bit chubba-chucks especially round the face area. Hahaha! If I get one I feel sorry for whoever follows me on Instagram, because I’m going to photograph the crap out of this thing. Oh who am I kidding, whatever cat I get it’s going to have it’s photo plastered all over the place, in fact my followers should count themselves lucky that I haven’t instagramed these plates to hell and gone.

Do any of you own a Grey British Shorthair? Would love to hear what type of pet they make. I’m hoping they loved to be hugged A LOT, I’m also hoping that they liked being carefully strapped to a couch and fed peanut butter and bacon all day long so they can get nice and fat.

They are the cutest things ever! Looks like they are going to pull out a cigar and pistol any moment. šŸ™‚ However, I struggled forever to find a breeder and they are super duper expensive. Or at least I couldn’t afford the grey bundle of love at that stage.

I thought they might be, I’m so torn, I want to save a kitty but I also really want one of these guys.
Hahah he looks exactly like something that is going to pull out a cigar and a pistol haha, especially in the last picture.

I seriously wanted a Scottish Fold kitty but they are rare and expensive too! Though there is a huge personality difference between a rescue kitten and one that has been bred or even just born into a home! My oldest baby (Phineas) was found along with his mother and sister (Salem) in a shed, we adopted both kittens but they never fully bonded with us, they just kind of co-existed with us, we gave them food and a warm place to sleep and in return we’d get a little cuddle once in a while. Unfortunately Salem died this July and it forced Phineas to interact with us more, now we are allowed to groom him and he’ll cuddle next to me when I am sleeping. A month and a half ago we got a new baby (Riff-Raff) who was living with all of his siblings and his mommy and their owners and Riff-Raff is much more ‘human friendly’ he is like my actual baby! Always on my lap, sleeping on me, playing with me, watching me brush my teeth, keeping me company while I am cooking, immediately coming when I call his name, he even watches tv shows and movies with me! Other rescue kitties might be different, unfortunately I wouldn’t know, my long story is just something to take into consideration!

Oh, and one last thing, just don’t make the mistake of allowing any kitties into the bedroom, I have allergies too and your husband will get used to the kitty but allowing them into the bedroom is a whole other level of terrible allergies and suffering to deal with,I just don’t have the heart to kick my babies out!

The sentence that made my day:
” Iā€™m also hoping that they liked being carefully strapped to a couch and fed peanut butter and bacon all day long so they can get nice and fat.”

angie if you want a cuddly affectionate kitty look for a pure black rescue cat with kind of panther-ish features. they are called bombay blacks and are sooooper lovely. i had one out of a big litter of pavement specials so she wasnt pure-bred but still very sweet. another affectionate breed are russian blues, who are also meant to be hypoallergenic, so good for people with allergies. and then there are ragdoll cats, who are big and fat and fluffy and will sleep on your face and have entire conversations with you.

dont ask me why i know so much about cats. we cant have one in our tiny flat in london.

A friend of mine has one and it’s extremely bad-tempered, but that might have more to do to its spoilt upbringing than the breed per se. Sooooo cute though!

the spca sandton has the cuddliest friendliest cats. Our cats from there and he acts like a puppy. But they not that into food. they just want people to play with them. Last time i visited there was a highly intelligent cat, who totally didn’t belong there, needing to be rescued.

Oh dear lord, i want those cats. Only problem is that my ginger ninja would not be impressed. Love the plates and hope you’re enjoying your break! V x

Doesn’t the Grey British kitty just look like such a granny’s cat? I love them! There was one at the Pta SPCA once, they’re so friendly and so soft! Sooooo wish I could take him home, but we had two big dogs at the time. Poor kitty:(
