On Saturday I went driving around with my friend Clint to some of my regular antique stores in search for some antique light fixtures for his house. We found a few, especially at Yesteryear, but while we were looking around and Clint was trying to decide if he was going to buy them or not, another man who was also on the hunt for lights, snapped up like 15 or so of them, including a few we were eyeing out. He claimed he was getting them for his new house he has just built, his new house that’s going to look like a light circus on crack! He was so totally buying them to polish them up and sell them for like double the price in some fancy-ass store somewhere. Not that it’s any of my business, just felt sorry for Clint cause he lost out.
But I came out alright…. After some sufficient digging around I found these…
A silver compact that can hang around your neck, it used to contain cream blusher for your lips and cheeks. Wish I knew how old it was…. And look it has a ‘D’ engraved on the front for me, Angie Batis Durrant. That’s why I had to have it, well that and it’s beautiful.
Also found this rolled gold locket which I only paid R50 for, I think the man who owns the shop made a mistake with the price, but I didn’t complain, I just paid. Yip.
I did however leave these beauties behind, the bear I left by mistake. Damn it! I got distracted and then forgot about him and the flipping cool 1960’s bed lamps were a bit pricey but I might go back for them. And that is why i’m not mentioning the name of the shop heeee, sorry, but we also went to Newlands and there was some cool stuff there, if you are keen for a hunt.
Also bought these (best colour in the world) minty green/blue teacups for Wolves. Happy drinking.
So cool to see what you bring home!
minty green/blue is such a good colour for a teacup 🙂
Angie could you please post a list/ addresses of places where you go hunting in jhb?
There is a whole street in Newlands called Long street, on Saturday morning take a drive down there, lots of nice antique shops 🙂
And Queen street is Kensington. These are both places that have a few shops in the same vacinity.
