Homemade Coffee Syrup

February 7, 2018

Sometimes it’s so much fun to just think of something you would like to smash in your face and then just make it! When Nicole and I were messing around in my kitchen the other day we were chatting about coming up with a delicious coffee syrup to mix with some sweet sweet coconut/almond milk and crushed ice. We both love ice-coffee flavoured drinks so we thought, what the hell lets make our own! I mean how hard can it be, we’ll just think of what we would like the syrup to be made up of flavour wise and then start mixing. We whipped this very delicious (even if I do say so myself)  little syrup up in no time and now there is always a bottle of it in my fridge because I’m that hooked!

So if you’re a fan of coffee-flavoured drinks then this is what you’re going to need…I was even thinking that if you had to add a tot of Kahlua liquor or some Amaretto it would make this a pretty awesome after dinner drink slash dessert.

*If you want to make a semi-decent amount of this syrup I would double all these ingredients and then keep it in the fridge between uses.

-1 cup coconut sugar (I may or may not be obsessed with this stuff)

-1 cup water

-A double shot of strong espresso or 80mls of very strong black coffee. We used Father Coffee.

-1 x teaspoon cinnamon

-A pinch of nutmeg

-1/2 cup coconut milk

-1/2 cup almond milk

-Crushed ice

1. Add all the ingredients except for the two milks and crushed ice into a pot and bring to the boil.

2. Turn the heat down to a medium temperature and let the mixture boil slowly for about 10 minutes.

3. In a jar or drinking glass add crushed ice and the coconut and almond milk, then about a double shot of this coffee syrup. You can make it more or less sweet if you’d like just by adding more or less syrup.

4. Sit back with a smug look on your face and enjoy.
