on saturday a bunch of us went to lusito land to stuff our mouths with caipirinhas. holy good those things are nice. the weather was pretty crappy, so we landed up having to slosh through rivers of mud with packets tied to our legs. fun, but not really ha! anyway while we were there, 4 of us, karen, clint and paris stumbled across a “get your name on a grain of rice” stand. hello 1993! so we decided to make a bet –  we each got a ridiculous dolphin with a grain of rice and one of our names on it and the bet was – who can wear the necklace the longest. we’re not even allowed to take it off while we shower. no! so the first one to cave buys the other 3 dinner at wombles, starters, mains and dessert. my bet is that paris (black haired guy) is going to bail first. and then i’m going to be sucking down fillet steak with mash potato and fillet steak sauce and then maybe some crème brule with 150 year old port. if they don’t have 150 year old port, i’m going to make them fly it in from somewhere haha. oh it’s going to be good. wish me luck x

i seriously laughed out loud when i saw that grain of rice stand (before i even read the story). jees! that’s right up there with tie-dyed sunflower t-shirts and those bracelets where each bead had a letter and they’d collectively spell out your name – or something like “best friends”

That is exactly where it’s at hahahaa! They are so ugly, I’ve hung it on a long chain and I wear it under my clothes. Man alive, I feel like I’m 15 and in dungarees when I wear this thing 🙂

!!I had one of those! My mother thought it was so tacky and hated that I bought one. I also really wanted a hair wrap…she said no. I had no taste as a child. Also, my boyfriend used to paint names on grains of rice for money!! hahaha

I also used to do them at markets, in 1998 I’ll have you know. Yes they’re about as tacky as you get (dolphin is definitely the worst if i recall), but so was/is a lot of stuff that’s suddenly trendy again. I say it’s ok to be uncool, it’s ok to have no taste, its ok to not be aware of good design, and sometimes its a relief when you decide not to care even if you do. (excuse me, I’m on a “be kind” mission)
