The other night when I was at Wolves, I bent down to pick something up off the floor, whilst completing this task I split one of my most favourite pairs of pants. All I heard was cccccccccccccrrccrcrcrp and then I casually got up and backed myself towards the bar.
On closer inspection I realised that they didn’t split up the seem but rather next to the pocket, leading me to believe that there’s a fault in the material. So I went into Vertigo the next day and showed them my torn pants and asked if they could refund me or give me a new pair and send this pair back to the manufacturer. They couldn’t help me there and then, but took my details and told me that they would call me the next day. They did call and they did not agree to any sort of refund or acceptance of the fact that these pants suck! When I was showing the guy in the store he actually said that one or 2 other people have also complained about the same pair.
The conclusion: Vertigo head office wouldn’t do anything unless I had a receipt for the pants, because the giant Vertigo label sewn into them was not enough proof that I bought them from their store. I even used that as an argument, but to no avail.
So now I have a R400 pair of facepants. What do you guys think? I reckon if I wear them enough times, people will stop pointing and laughing and instead buy pants from Vertigo, wait for them to split and them face rock the crap out of them.
Thanks Vertigo, for nothing.

I actually wanted to buy those same pair of pants! But they didn’t have my size, so I was very sad about not getting them. But this cheered me right up! Unfortunately you had to be the “proef konyn”. 😛
Urgh the Platinum Group are useless with any kind of returns and adamantly stick by their policy that there is nothing wrong with the shitty product they send out to store. For example the jersey I bought my hubby because he just loved it and had to have it. I spied several HOLES around the neckline after a few weeks! I complained, they did nothing.
I get mad but then I think about fashioning these ruined items into facial accessories and then I become glad! I become even gladder thinking about making their managers wear the facepants! That’d be a great policy: “We can’t refund you but we promise to wear the ruined items on our faces should anything go wrong!” I’d be SOLD on that policy!
lols, sorry friend. They suck. Truworths equally suck as they wouldn’t swop the brand new shirt I bought my Dad for xmas that was a little too small as I too didn’t have the slip. Again, the fact that there was a giant “truworths” label on the shirt was not proof enough. chain stores suck bum.
It sucks that Vertigo is so bad about returning things cos they have such nice stuff. I bought a top from them a while back and it shrunk big time, I took it back and they said I was the third person to complain and they still had the top’s on their racks. Silly people
shame, that’s a sad story angie. silly vertigo. let’s boycott them! x
Thank you for this post. The power of the blog and word of mouth is like 7 unicorns in a pyramid eating jellybean ice cream i. e. AMAZING!
I will not support crappy Vertigo anymore. Their crapness give me vertigo. Although, having learned the hard way, I always keep all my receipts for at least 2 months after purchasing something. Except anything from Mexican Fresh… That I just stuff into my face…
xx
Thanks for all the comments guys. Makes me so angry that we have such a limited source of shops to buy stuff from and then the ones that have semi-cool stuff buy cheap crap product that isn’t worth a third of what they charge for it. Asses!
next time, buy a larger size of pants.
=D
😛
Try pull the fabric in another place. If it tears, its really crap fabric! I had that with a pair of denims once, they tore so easy.
Sorry about your pants, lady! It wasn’t meant to be, there’s another more awesome pair just waiting for you out there. This one’s good for bad hair/ skin/ face days though 🙂
Awesome post, much lollage all round 🙂
That is shocking and hilarious! I think I heard on the radio that with the new consumers act, shops HAVE to take back faulty clothes. Also just fyi I think they won’t take stuff without a reciept because of the possibility of the item being shoplifted or some crap. Can’t believe such expensive pants would just tear like that. But like someone else said, atleast you can spread their crapness all over your blog now.. 🙂
I never buy stuff from them, they have such a bad rep for shitty customer service and their products are so badly made(even though the stuff’s pretty)…Shame for you lady!!! But love how you rant, it’s the best, and so hilariously graceful! I would have been a fury ball! But now more people know how rubbish they are and so hopefully they made a weeny bit less $$$$:)
xx
wamping the wamp. know a girl who works at head office as one of the head designers. shall i post this link on her fb page??? heading “Vertigo suck”
I looooooooove your blog!! i read it all the time.. but i have to disagree with you on those pants.. i have the same pair and i absolutely looove them!! i live in them and have had no problem with them what so eva, i actually feel that vertigo is the only shop i can actually find things i like.. i LOVE Vertigo!!! i support them fully, they are great for the local design industry and offer way more than most shops. maybe you should have bought a size bigger? but def disagreeing on this topic..
i have bought jeans from diesel that were slightly too small for me and the also ripped and i knew i couldn’t return them, shit happens sometimes doesn’t mean its a bad brand..
n e way.. just speaking my mind..
: )
WE LOVE VERTIGO!!!!
La & Tam
I bought a vest top from them that shrunk to buggery. I loved it so much I swapped it for another that did exactly the same. Same story, no refund. The only thing I fancied was a scarf, they brought me some from the storeroom to choose from and they were all obviously faulty! All 5 or 6 or them! They didn’t seem to care. Again the assistant said that almost all of the vests he sold had been returned but they were still on the shelves, for other suckers to buy. I don’t step foot in that place.
I seriously hope that new Consumer Protection Act will be able to help us with such things???
lauren – i guess i could of bought a bigger size, thing was they weren’t small for me…. but anyway i guess stuff like that happens, just sucks that so many people have similar stories about default stuff from there. i agree with you, they have very cool designs, but they should up their game in terms of quality because they seriously don’t lack in the price department.
Unfortunately, the Vertigo clothing group who houses a few other labels is not run by very nice helpful people…such a pity, cos there stuff is potentially great!!!! Sorry about your pants….
