This morning I am very excited to introduce to you one of my new and very first sponsors. Everyone say hello to the guys from Hello Pretty, which is an amazing local online store that specifically sells all things designed and made in South Africa. I’m very excited about this site because there are designers stuff that I recognise and then there are things that I have never seen before and there is still more to come. It feels like you can scroll on forever on and never stop seeing nice things.
I asked them a few questions so that I and in turn you could get to know them a bit better and I have pulled a bunch of cool things off their site to show you. They sell the most beautiful products form bow ties to chocolate to wallpaper to ceramics to jewlery to art to furniture to watercoloured pendants, you name something pretty and they probably have it. So without further adue here they are….
1. How long have you guys been going for and what is Hello Pretty all about?
We’ve been discussing the idea seriously since September last year but only started coding and sourcing designers in February this year. We’re basically an online market with a focus on South African design.
2. Where are you based and who is part of the team?
There are officially 5 of us, but day to day there are 3 (me, Scott and Adeline). Officially we’re based in Cape Town.
3. The things you sell on your site, are they all local or do you have some international stuff on it too?
They’re all local. Besides the obvious intent to support our local designers (who are truly talented), a big thing we wanted to avoid was the customs roulette that South Africans have to play every time they order something online from overseas, so we’ve been strict about only allowing South African things on the site. We don’t require that things be handmade, but ultimately it should be designed and crafted, and posted, from within South Africa.
4. Will you deliver anywhere?
This is up to the individual sellers – those who are willing to send things overseas can do so. So in answer to your question, I think, yes.
5. How often do you update your stock?
Stock gets updated every day on average – our designers are very active bunch! The stores are all controlled by the designers themselves. They are constantly adding new things, and there are also new stores almost every week. Pretty much every day that I go onto the site there’s something new that’s been added – even we get lost in browsing through the lovely things sometimes.
6. How many individual designers do you have on your books?
We have 60 individual brands, and another 33 who have their invite codes but still need to set up their stores. We’re also actively recruiting designers we know of and love. So there’s a lot going on. We’re constantly amazed at the wealth of local design talent here.
Here are some things that I really liked off the site… happy shopping hee

A friend here in Melbourne told me about your fabbo site. I’ve been reluctant to come visit because I knew it would make me homesick for South Africa. It has. And this post has made things even worse. You suck/are awesome/suck.
