COOL STUFF, PLACES, places to go

Hello 80’s, please stay a while, my sidepony thinks you’re damn skippy.

October 27, 2011

Last Wednesday night Jo, Este, Liam and I were invited to a Virgin Active 80’s aerobics class at the Melrose Arch Virgin Active and we didn’t pass up the opportunity to dress up like it was 1983 again. We adorned the headbands and the tights, the sideponys and the bandanas and we marched over there with the enthusiasm of a young child that’s had too much Oros.

It was super fun, but I’m not going to lie I struggled a bit to keep up because my coordination is not something to be admired. When everyone was facing North, I was most likely facing West, butchering the move like Freddy Kruger gone wild in an all-girls boarding school. But I did my best and by the end of it I was tired and a little sad to come back to the 2000’s.

I looked up pictures of Jane Fonda for wardrobe inspiration and all I can say is, damn people’s workout gear back in the day was hiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. None of us were brave enough to sport the leotard and legwarmers, altough I was secretly hoping Liam would.

I shot a little video of our travels back in time. Hope you like it. Oh and if any of you feel like a bit of a dance/workout and a sing-a-long, because you CANNOT help but sing along, check out one of these sessions and get ready to footloose.

    Dude, we were useless! Hahahaa!
Jo was the only one that could keep up, the rest of us looked like people with special needs 🙁

I think the real winner here was Aerobics. And the all the other people who got watch us.

They should offer retro aerobics only memberships for this reason. Plus, if you get to dress up like an 80s you’re probably in for a good time no matter what you do.

At first I was sad that you chose the picture where I look like a transvestite. Then I realised that they were probably all like that.

that is themazing. the only thing that would make it more themazing would be if everyone in the class would dress up as themazing as you guys did and then by default, become themazing themselves.

The real 80’s is a haze-y memory of freedom & fun. Adventure, discovery & learning how to create.
