Arb post- Goodbye fridge. Happy travels to fridge heaven.

September 7, 2011

You know that fridge that you get from your parents when you move out of home and into your own place for the first time? It’s just one piece of many that are pretty much a mismatch of things from their house and stuff you can barley afford (well it works this way if you are in advertising). My momdad fridge packed up a few days ago after many wonderful years of service, which meant that we got to buy a shiny new one. I’m not going to lie, I was pretty excited to go fridge shopping. When I went looking I was so mesmorsied by the variety and scared crapless by the prices! Some of them are priced so high you could buy a really small car instead and run the aircon non-stop, then you would have a car/fridge. Ok sure it’s not practical, but you would definitely get points for ingenuity right? Right.

Well anyway I went to Stax to have a look and even though I would blow up a small country for a Smeg, it first of all wouldn’t fit in my current kitchen and I didn’t happen to have R27 000 lying around in a briefcase somewhere waiting for me to use on some arb fridge shopping expedition. I did however find a very nice Bosch, but I thought I would look around at prices before I committed and thank goodness I did. I bought the exact same fridge at Game for R900 less, R900 I get to now stash in a really really small briefcase somewhere until one day I can buy a Smeg catalogue. Being an adult is so hard sometimes.

Friend I feel your pain. Our fridge packed up two years ago. it was a classic – 30 years old, complete with faux wood paneling! Replacing it made me feel deprived for a while-our replacement seemed so normal after that guy! Haha!

Just paint your new fridge with chalkboard paint and write “smeg” on it 😛 also then you can really draw a face on your fridge, perhaps a hungry face, when it’s empty ….

You don’t have R27 000 lying around in a brief case? That’s so weird.

I have my granny’s fridge it first went to my sister and then when she could afford her own (she is a Dr, now) it came to me! – its beige with brown detailing. I like the chalkboard idea, but i dont know if you want to paint a fancy new fridge.

WOW I am so into those fridges. Ours is about to die so I’ve been looking too…WHY ARE THEY SO EXPENSIVE? The ones I like are here – http://bigchill.com/site/ – Kinda the same idea. And same crazy price range. But COME ON, two tone? Round corners? Awesome.
