GIVEAWAY – Collect

May 25, 2011

I first saw Julie Robert’s jewelry called Collect at the Design Indaba this year. They caught my beady eye because they were all really sweet and dainty, such special little pieces. Julie says she started making jewelry when she was just 4, but professionally she’s been lovingly hammering pieces out for 7 years now. Shooo at 4 I was eating most of my arts and crafts materials, my mom was lucky if she got even a third of her mother’s day macaroni card. Shame.

Julie lives in Cape Town and draws all her own designs. I asked her if she ever gives her friends any of her pieces, she says only if they’re good – I’m good at not sewing well, can I please have a gold bunny ring, I swear I will take care of it.

You can buy Collect pieces at her Gardens studio and you can view a ‘stockists’ section on her site if you are keen to purchase some of these lovelies.

Julie has very graciously given me not one, but 2 Collect pieces (see below) to giveaway to you guys. And this time around I thought I would run this a bit differently. You still have to leave me a comment to enter as well as like the Collect facebook page, then I will pick a winner who will in turn pick another winner from the list of comments, whoever they want, no questions asked. So the winner will get a new friend and a new necklace. Yes. So good luck guys xx

*shoots hand up in the air* pick me, pick me I want that bunny necklace! I love Julie’s wares. I bought pretty name necklaces that said ‘love’ from her as a gift for my bridesmaids (who also happen to be my sisters). I’ve just ordered another name necklace from her for a friend’s 30th. But now I want my own necklace!
I also *really* want one of her heart rings – pure prettiness!

PS I do like the Collect page on FB πŸ™‚

  • Annah May 25, 2011 at 11:33 am

I really like bunnies (also hamsters, but no one ever makes jewelry with hamsters on them…wonder why?) The bunny rings are pretty awesomeness!

  • kepena May 25, 2011 at 11:41 am

Oh. Goodness. Gracious. Please can I have the bunny one? I collect bunny-things and here’s a funny story to explain why: (Why I collect them and why I should win. Mostly the latter.)

I have two brothers and we three are the Hasies (“bunnies” in Afrikaans, obvz.). It’s almost like being the three musketeers, except not.

We have a whole system whereby only the people we really really really love (ie the boy and girls we’re going to marry) can become Hasies too. If we don’t really dig you, then you’re an Isak. (I’m not entirely sure why…the reasoning behind that one has become lost in folklore, but I’m thinking something like “I-suck” in a twisty way.)

Anyway, the next level is then a Konyn. That’s when you’re like okay, but we’re not convinced yet. After that you become a Snuffelkonyn (Mmm, obviously we like you, but we’re unsure about whether you’d be able to really fit in for like forever) and then a Snuffelhaas (Wow, this is quite special and you really could be The One), before eventually when it’s like the Real Deal, become a Hasie. (It’s a complicated system of how much we like you, how much niceness you do/bring/buy for us and of course whether you hurt any one of the Hasies. That’s a big no-no if you ever want to move above the Isak level.)

Our parents are Pikkewyne (penguins), because they mate for life. When we three Hasies then also have kids, we’ll become Pikkewyne too and then our kids will be the next generation Hasies. (We haven’t figured out what the newly grandfathered-and-grandmothered Pikkewyne will then be called, we’ll figure it out when we get there.)

So, that is why I collect bunny-things, to remind me of my brothers and how much we love each other. So obviously it would be too incredibly amazing if I could wear a bunny around my neck every day for the rest of forever to remind me of our Hasieness.

Please. And Thank You! (You can totally be like a Snuffelkonyn if you let me win!)

Sorry. Typed my name wrong. That kinda thing happens when you’re trying to remember the rules of your own social hierarchy.

  • Debra Addison May 25, 2011 at 11:46 am

These necklaces are a little piece of Cape Town, where there are just so many creatives letting their imaginations fly all around the mountain filled sky. Cape Town I miss you. I love you too, Durban, you are warm and lovely, but I desire a little bit of Cape Town to wear around my neck, is that so bad?

  • jacci May 25, 2011 at 11:57 am

i like bunnies, i really do!

  • Jess May 25, 2011 at 12:01 pm

Collected = the bomb.com! It’s the new saying I’ve picked up from somewhere? I think its rather applicable. Yes. β™₯

  • hannahjoy May 25, 2011 at 12:05 pm

i definitely think i should get the bunny necklace. ever since i was a small one my ma has called me “bun” and “bunny”. i am the only girl in my family, with 3 older brothers, so of course i had to be a soft, cuddly girly creature. i was dressed in a variety of bunny inspired outfits as a child, my mom even once almost bought me a playboy bunny necklace until my brothers explained to her that it was more about sexy ladies than furry woodland creatures. so you see….i never did get a bunny necklace. i would so love to have one.

oh and the maker of this beautiful jewellery has a name that it only one letter different to my favourite actress: julia roberts.

see, the stars are aligning….it is meant for me!
    xx

  • Hannah aka Ham May 25, 2011 at 12:21 pm

  • fablefairy May 25, 2011 at 1:49 pm

Oh I must have that birdy. My beloved skermunkil bird fell from my neck on an errand and no amount of weeping, wailing, searching or step retracing could bring it back. There must be a reason and the reason was to make space for a Collect bird! My poor neck is lonley waiting to be elegantly pecked. This is the start of a lifetime love affair with Collect.

  • amy May 25, 2011 at 2:06 pm

OMG, I really think I need a cute little bird or bunny to make my life better… How beautiful? Those necklaces are seriously in the same league as sunshine and rainbows.

Ok, I joined the facebook group. Pick me pick me!

  • tailsofamermaid May 26, 2011 at 1:29 pm

So after a night in Durban for work…I arrived home on Friday morning a couple of weeks ago to find that my bedroom window had been broken into…and ALL my beautiful necklaces that had been draped over the lamp next to my bed had been fished out using a stick πŸ™ (the stick had kindly been thrown into my room for good measure)
Thankfully, my jewelry boxes filled with ringsand bangles and bracelets and brooches that I have been collecting over the years could not be reached from the window and were all still safe. Phew.
Saddened (ok…and maybe a little scared) I left home to collect my boyfriend from work.
When we arrived home later that evening, we found that our front door had been locked from the inside! My boyfriend quickly scaled the wall to get round to the back of our house, and there it was: Our sliding door was open and the trellidoor broken open.
Along with our hard drive, camera, video camera and a few other things, they had also completely wiped out my jewelry collection πŸ™ EVERYTHING!
Its kind-of ok though, cause these two beauties are prettier than anything I had anyway… Pleeeeaaaaase may I have one?

  • Lia May 26, 2011 at 1:50 pm

Pretty please with sugar on top <3 Collect is Super Duper awesome verby x Bird and rabbit will make anyone a better person!

  • Este May 26, 2011 at 2:15 pm

Something about shooting you in the face with a potato gun. Now where’s my necklace, Lynda.

  • Elizna May 26, 2011 at 3:42 pm

I love how feminine the designs are. A birdy will look pretty good around my neck!

I’m not good at waffling or making up convincing stories of why I should win, so I’ll only ask, may I please win?

  • Lizanne May 26, 2011 at 3:50 pm

oh i love bunnies… i do i really do… we actually owned 2 pet bunnies that used to hop around our flat, they’d sit on your lap and cuddle. Too cute… This necklace reminds me of them… Oh and I liked the page πŸ™‚

  • Sam Sam May 27, 2011 at 2:01 am

Yes. I am here. And yes. I would LOVE a new item of jewellery. Thanks for asking.

I feel that to make this seem fair I need to provide some kind of justification. Let me explain to you how my life runs at the moment. Adventures. Loads and loads of them. Imagine a whole lot of adventures and then multiply that by a lot! Today I decided to bake instead. So I made not one batch, or two batches but 6 batches of pancakes for my friend and her room mates! I also made bar one sauce and mushrooms and we had a breakfast FEAST!

    Best. Day. Ever.

The only way this could have become better was owning a gorgeous sparrow or bunny necklace. Sparrow because they are a symbol of freedom, innocence and playfulness (and the french word for them “hirondelle” is just beautiful!) and Bunny because they are the softedt things that ever existed!

Please oh please make this the best day ever had by anyone?

  • joface May 27, 2011 at 8:12 am
