DIY Christmas wreath

This year is the first time in over 10 years that I’m going to have a Christmas tree in the house. Since moving out of my parent’s home it’s been ages since I’ve decorated for the festive season, so I’m really amped to be filling our house with a tree and all sorts of pretty cheerful things.

There is just something about this time of year that makes me extra happy and I’m so excited to start some new family traditions with Nina James and Shane.

I love Christmas wreaths, they’re all over Pinterest and every time I see one I wish it was hanging in my house. So in this post I’m going to make  D.I.Y. Christmas wreath from scratch and I’m going to show you step by step how you can make your own, if you like.

I love green wreaths but I have decided to put an extra spin on mine and add some Lindt chocolate and a bunch of lucky ponies, for fun. If any of you make one of these I’d love to see the end result so drop me a mail.

Materials:

1. LINDOR Milk Chocolate Truffles

2. 40cm sponge wreath (which I got from a local florist)

3. Florist wire which I got from there too

4. Clippers

5. Foliage and berries or whatever greenery you feel like using

6. Plastic animals

Directions:

1. Soak your sponge wreath face down in a tub of water for about an hour.

2. Assemble the wreath by taking pieces of cut foliage and pinning them into your sponge frame using the florists wire. I cut 7 cm long pieces and then bent them in half to form little u-shaped pins. *Make sure that the bottom piece of each cut foliage is pushed into the sponge so that it gets some nourishment.

3. Continue layering pieces in the same direction and don’t worry exposed wire will get covered as you go. You can cover them by using small leafy stems that can be pushed directly into the sponge without the use of wire. Follow the natural curve of the branches and you should be just fine.

4. When you have come all the way around and filled in the gaps with smaller pieces of foliage, start placing the Lindor truffles around the wreath, you can use the wire or a glue gun to put them in place.

5. Get out your plastic animals. I made slightly longer u-shaped wire pins to attach these guys and I only needed one per horse, same with the Lindt balls.

6. Find the perfect spot to hang your wreath, somewhere where the sun won’t melt your truffles and where you can have easy access to them. I hung mine above our bed – midnight snacking here I come.
