Design Quarter – Art of Experience

August 20, 2019

Every now and then it’s so nice to find an activity to do that requires nothing but your face, your imagination and perhaps a friend or two.

I was told by a friend of mine that The Design Quarter in Fourways holds an art class, or Art of Experience as they call it on the last Saturday of every month, where you simply show up find a seat and then the lovely folk that run it explain what the day’s activity is. It’s set up in the Square so you can enjoy a spot of sun while you let your arty self loose.

The cool part is that the theme or the technique changes every month which means you can dabble in all sorts of creative fun. The workshop we attended was all about the Art of Stipling, which was so much fun because 1. you get to work with Sharpies, I love me a good Sharpie and 2. you got to design/draw on your own tote bag making it a one of kind piece of art that is useful too đŸ™‚

Like I mentioned the Design Quarters Art of Experience classes run on the last Saturday of every month between 11:00 am and 15:00 pm. The first 50 people to join don’t have to pay for anything, it’s a free fun activity and you get to take home your creation, but if more than 50 people have participated before you get there than the entry is only R50.

This month on Saturday the 31st of August 2019 they will be hosting The Art Of The Fashion Icon with Tilonè who is an up and coming fashion artist. The Art Of The Fashion Icon is a fashion icon illustration workshop where you will learn, with some assistance from Tilonè, how to bring your own fashion icon to life your very own custom-designed t-shirt!

And here’s a bonus, when you’re done you can go sit at one of the many restaurants located around the Square and smash a delicious meal. We landed up at Mythos where we started with dessert and ended on some pretty damn delicious Greek food.

If any of you go to the next class please let me know how it goes, would also love to see what you make.

Ps: You don’t need any artistic skills to take part, it’s open to absolutely anyone and everyone.
