animals, things i want

Come here kitty cat, I promise I won’t smoosh you to death with my arm love.

September 5, 2011

Last week Este and I went to Kitty Haven to go have a look at the cats that they have available for adoption. Shane, my wonderful and amazing and smart and tall husband (Shane I hope you are reading this) has agreed to let me have a kitten. Now this has been an almost 3 year convincing process with old Shanie because he has asthma and cats really do not agree with his face in any way. But I have heard from many people that you can get used to your own cat and if you get it from little, even better.

So he has agreed to let us bring a kitty home, which I’m super excited, but also a bit apprehensive about, because it’s going to suck if Shane really can’t cope. So I haven’t made my mind up yet. But anyway Este and I went to Kitty Haven, which is a great place that houses all sorts of cats that they try find homes for and never ever put down, unless they are suffering.

Shame, these little guys were so friendly, all they wanted was a scratch and some love. It’s awesome that this place exists but it would be even more awesome if all these fur faces could find homes. Anyone looking for a cat, please please click here for Kitty Haven’s details.

If I do decide to get a one, I want to get a kitten, so I have to go back in about 9 weeks, that’s when it’s kitty season. Man alive, I would love a cat so much, the last time I had one I was about 8 and I found this stray at my granny’s house in Zimbabwe. I loved that thing for like 2 days solid and then it bolted and left me with ringworm on my neck, charming hey? But I still want one, I just think I’m going to use these next few weeks to seriously think about it.

Good luck with getting a pud-tat. They make the best housemates (& the cuddliest lap warmers). You are going to fall in love!

ahhhh the joy a little fur ball will give you will far out weight the runny nose and itchy eyes…and you can also take anti-histamines (sp?) at first to help you (well shane) cope…. good luck on making a decision!!!! Otherwise you could always get one of those insanely attractive ones with no fur at all:) xx

good luck with the excitement of getting the kitty!

it should be ok, both my kids are super allergic to cats (it’s actually their saliva, so no fur doesn’t help!), and after being in contact with kitties they became desensitised – and now we have seven! (cats, not kids!)

I also know that its teh saliva that causes the issues, shorter hair cats will help a little as there is less fur that falls out AND less area to cover with saliva.

Fexo is a good anthistamine that wont make shane sleepy and that will help a lot with itches, runny noses, scratches and all the rest.

Best advice is to make a sitting place and a sleeping space that is kitty’s own that way kitty wont get all up in Shane’s grill.

SO excited for you – I hope it all works out harmoniously for all three of you!

I also want a kitten – but I think Sergio is going to need more than 3yrs of convincing…. 🙁
I’ve tried explaining to him (as he’s also “allergic”) that he will become desensitised… But he doesn’t believe it.
Angie – get one – then Shane can convince Serg (if the desensitisng thing does work).

I am SUCH a kitty lover. I have also had a ringworm (ahem a few times) from loving kitties a bit too much. My hubby needs no convincing he loves kitties but we need a home as our block of flats doesn’t allow kitties :(. You are very lucky, so I want to see pics of that little kitten. When I eventually get one I’m going to be so Almeira with it and love and squeeze it all day long!

    ooohh a puddytat. yes please!

All the comments about drool are spot on, my lovely old siamese sent people into fits of sneezing, and it was so sad, as she was the friendliest cat ever! you could get one of those hairless cats hee hee! but i think they get sun burn. Also make sure the kitty is banned from the bedroom, that way shane will survive!

(i read some pamphlet somewhere that friends of the cat look for people to offer “halfway houses” to kitties before they are placed in adoption, it mmmiiiight be a way to alleviate kitty pangs, but for shorter periods…

happy kitty snuggling! best is to stick your face in their furry bellies!

I cannot recommend a cat enough. We have what can only be described as ‘a great many cats’, and I swear about three times a day they totally make me smile and speak in a ridiculous voice. My life would be a hundred times less awesome without them.

I’m trying to convince my S.O (Significant Other) that I want a cat too. Your picture of the black one walking on the logs – I would love to him home!

I got both my little shits (said in an endearing way, of course) from Kitty Haven. They are the 2nd and 3rd Best Things in My Life after my husband.

I’m also seriously allergic to cats, but have been fine. Granted, it took a while and I have to wash my hands a lot.

Just be careful with FIP ( in kittens. Both my previous shelter kittens had it and they passed away shortly after we got them. Very, very sad and very, very cruel illness.

Otherwise, maybe look at getting a slightly older furry friend? (PS – if you get a kitten, you MUST get Game for Cats on iPad. I can send you a vid of my Jerry playing it…)

My brother and I are allergic (which we only found out once we had 2 cats!), and its really been fine. Just wash your hands after you play with them and its all good 🙂

Yayyyy Angie, a kitten!!! Too cute 🙂 xxx
