Win with Lucky Pony and Venus

November 19, 2015

venusonthego

A little while back I did a post on a cool giveaway that I’m still running with Venus and their new Snap Razor where you can win yourself a shopping spree at Topshop worth R20 000.

Venus asked me to think about what my perfect mom’s breakaway would be and after a bit of thought I broke it down into two parts and in this post I’m going to tell you about part one, which would be a day out by myself doing things that I like when I have a bit of free time. Being a mom is the most amazing thing on the planet, but every now and then a little alone time is just what the imaginary doctor ordered and so below I’m going to include some of my favourite places to visit and what I would pack in my bag for a perfect one day mom’s breakaway right in my backyard. I’m then going to encourage you guys to shoot and upload what you would pack in your bag for a mini-break or even a long-break away, so that you can put yourself in line to win this awesome shopping trip.

Workshop 55

November 5, 2015

Workshop 55-1

Workshop 55-2

There is a new kid on the block and they have gin! Workshop 55 is a gin, whiskey and tapas bar and it serves some of the nicest food I’ve had in a while, which might have something to do with the fact that it’s owned by the same people who run the Cube Tasting Kitchen, which I still have to try out! The food at Workshop 55 is not as experimental as Cube, it’s more relaxed and down to earth, but damn do they know their flavours.

The only thing I will say about this restaurant that is a little on the negative side is that I thought it was a bit pricey. You see they operate slightly differently to a normal eatery in that there is a R180 entrance fee per person which allows you to choose three tapas from the 14 taster options and if you would like a couple more dishes you’ll have to pay an extra R40 per item. So it lands up being pretty expensive and the portions seeing as it is a tapas bar are not very big. I mean I don’t mind paying more than an average amount for my meal, but then I want to feel full afterwards and I wasn’t full. Thank goodness everything tasted so nice otherwise I would of been one sad little Greekie. I think if they had to increase their servings slightly you wouldn’t mind the price as much.

I’m going to mention a couple of items that we really enjoyed, in case you want to try them if you land up going – Roasted Pork Belly, Duck Pancake, Beef Trinchado, Chicken Coconut Curry, Sardines and the Squid Heads.

Honest Chocolate Cafe

HONEST CHOCOLATE CAFE

What can I honestly say about Honest Chocolate Cafe, well how about that I am honestly in love with this place. Not only do they make some of the tastiest chocolate around which comes in some of the best packaging ever, but they also have the coolest little cafe in Cape Town which sells amazing cakes and coffees.

I have literally been dying to go to this shop ever since I started following them on Instagram, which is absolute torture because every time they upload a photo of something that they have baked I land up staring so hard at my screen that my eyes start to water and then I get angry because there isn’t an Honest Chocolate in Johannesburg. Hey what’s wrong with us guys?! Come here please.

The Good luck Club in Emmarentia

dim sum

The Good luck Club in Emmarentia -13

Some of you may not know this but Shane and I together with the new owners of Wolves and The Good Luck Club in Illovo have opened a second Good Luck Club in Emmarentia. It has the same menu, the same vibe, warm wooden interiors, fairy lights and a fresh batch of new cat wallpaper that features a sword yielding Tabby and a confused moustached Persian. Man I wish my full time job consisted of me designing cat wallpaper. That would be so nice.

So because this particular Good Luck Club is still relatively new we thought we would start a fun tradition called Dim Sum Dinsdag. So basically if you like dim sum then you’re really going to like what I’m about to type – Every Tuesday from here on out at The Good luck Club in Emmarentia you can get ten pieces of dim sum for R80. There are some conditions like no takeaways, no sharing and the platter has to be made up of two pieces of five different flavours, but other than that you and your stomach are good to go.

Forever 21 in Sandton City

October 16, 2015

FOREVER 21 SANDTON

Last night I got to go have a sneak peak and a wonder around the brand new Forever 21 in Sandton City that is having it’s grand opening this Saturday.

Guys this store is huge, in fact it’s two floors full of stuff that I think you’re really going to like. The clothes are made up of all sorts of different styles for all sorts of different people and not just things that you can only wear if you look like Taylor Swift or anyone that is as tall, skinny or genetically well structured in the face as her and here’s the best part, stuff is not badly priced. I saw really nice pieces for between R400-R550, but then I also saw awesome things that were only a couple of hundred rand. I must say I was very surprised price wise and I think you’re going to be too.
