Naked Kitchen & Coffee Bar

Naked-Kitchen-&-Coffee-Bar-14

I hardly ever venture out of my little bubble when it comes to working in coffee shops or shared work spaces etc. I don’t really like driving far and by far I mean anywhere further than 5km hehe. When I have to go to say Fourways, for example, I take a deep breath and prepare myself for the looooooong drive. I know I know, I’m ridiculous! What can I say, I like my neighbourhood.

A couple of days ago Anna-Belle and I decided to go have lunch at Naked Kitchen & Coffee Bar in Morningside. We had seen a bit about it online and so thought we would have our weekly catch-up there and I’m super happy to say that I’m glad we did! Not only was the coffee really good, but the food was amazing with a capital A, not sure how that makes a difference to the actual word, if it makes it more impactful or what, but it’s a saying I’ve grown up with so I’m whipping out!

The head chef whose name is Amazing Sasha with a capital A makes food that smells, looks and tastes amazing (word of the day).

Ono eatery

August 3, 2017

So once again a brand new cool little restaurant has opened up in Illovo and this time it’s not even down the road from me, it’s literally across it and it serves the most delicious poke and breakfast bowls and shakes! Ono Eatery has just opened its doors and behind them, you will find the cutest little restaurant complete with wooden swing chairs in the window and a pretty banana leaf canopy made out of white metal that hangs over an olive green banquette.

I follow quite a few foodie Instagrammers, like Morning_Temptations (follower her, she’s amazing) who make the most awesome looking breakfast bowls and I always think to myself – Damn if only I lived in that person’s spare room, or under their bed so I can just pop into the kitchen in the morning after they have made and photographed their creation for the day and be like ‘Hey dude, I’ll eat that for you if you don’t want it’.

urbanologi-2

What do you do when you find yourself with two friends in a restaurant that serves Asian inspired fusion tapas made from freshly sourced Asian and local ingredients? You ignore the fact that your stomach is (apparently, but definitely not in my case) only the size of your fist and you order 13 dishes made up of all sorts of amazing things that will make your head spin with happiness.

Urbanologi is located at the 1 Fox Precinct in Ferreirasdorp smack bang in the middle of the Mad Giant Brewery. So not only do you get to enjoy the culinary masterpieces that come out of Chef Jake’s kitchen, but you get to wash it all down with some amazing locally brewed beer.

July 20, 2017

Rock-A-Baby-2017-11

It is that time of the year again, the time where all the loveliest baby/kiddy brands from around the country get together in one glorious space and make all moms, moms-to-be and just about anyone in general who likes cute things ooh and aaa left, right and center.

The Rock-A-Baby 2017 opened yesterday and is set to run until this Sunday the 23rd of July. This time around it’s taking place in the ever delightful 44 Stanley which means that you will be surrounded by good restaurants and nice pretty courtyards for the kids to run around in. In the actual pop-up shop is made up of numerous tables and shelves of beautiful, beautiful, beautiful baby goods, luckily for me, I had two bags, a camera and a toddler to juggle so I couldn’t do too much damage on my credit card! There is also a very cool little play corner filled with the prettiest climbing apparatus (compliments of the team behind this pop-up the Kimmy and Bear girls, Alex, Cheska and Bailey – guys your designs are amazing) and activity tables for kids to let loose in.

Momo Soko

Momo-Soko

Oooh, I’m a sucker for all food Asian, I think if I could eat Udon noodles and Gyozas all day long I’d be the happiest person on this planet. I’ve always thought to myself that I would love to learn how to make more Asian inspired food, so if anyone knows of a place that gives lessons, please let me know so I can make my udon wishes come true.

But for now, I’m happy to say that literally just down the road from me there is a brand spanking new restaurant called Momo Soko in Illovo which serves amazing, slightly modernized Asian street food which looks, smells and tastes like what food dreams are made of!

La Boqueria Parktown North

June 1, 2017

La-Boqueria-Parktown-North-1

I love all kinds of food so when a new joint opens up in my neighbourhood and it boasts a pretty interesting and diverse menu, which was derived from the owners favourite food markets from around the world, then I’m more than happy to mosey on over and give it a try.

La Boqueria Parktown North has just recently opened its doors on 3rd Ave (a few shops down from The Foundry) and this beautifully designed restaurant is not only an atmospheric pleasure, but it makes some pretty decent food too! The space is huge, surrounded by massive windows, hanging plants, beautiful antiques, considered brick a brack and a bar made entirely from orange post boxes, which was one of my favourite parts. I have this thing with restaurants that I visit, I like looking around and thinking about what I would have designed differently, how I would have filled the space if it was up to me and to be honest I wouldn’t change a thing in La Boqueria, I love the way it looks and feels and would totally steal their macrame plant collection if I could!
