Skinny la Minx

This next post of mine is quite a fun one because it’s all about how to give a space in your house a quick makeover just by adding a few key pieces to the room, and refreshing it in a way that will not only make it feel cosier but more considered too. I will also be giving away TWO sets of 3 x Skinny la Minx designer cushions (six cushions in total) to one lucky winner and a friend. Details on how to enter at the end of this post!

Now there are a lot of ways to do this that can and will cost you loads of cash, which will make your room nice and happy but your face really sad! There are however some quick, not-so-pricey ways to add to a little something to a space that will instantly change it up. I’m going to start by introducing you to a fantastic local label (which I’m sure many of you are familiar with already) called Skinny la Minx and their very cool and brand spanking new Pillow Lab and range of Colour Pop Pillows.

The Storer

Seeing as it Mother’s Day soon I thought that I would make the month of May ‘Mother’s Month’ so I’m giving away something every week until the end of it, starting with an amazing prize from an even more amazing store! Keep reading to see where I’m going with this…

One of my favourite things ever is walking into a shop and being surrounded by things that make my heart backflip a little, do you know what I mean when I say that?

I’m an absolute sucker for beautiful interior goods and when they have been displayed in a space that makes you want to move in and make it your home, then I know that my credit card and I are in some serious trouble! Guys, I’m not going to lie the second I stepped into the store I’m going to tell you about I had to take a deep breath because there was so much to see and want! It made me so happy and a little sad because I knew that it wasn’t possible to have one of everything.

Situated in the ever charming 44 Stanley is a shop called The Storer, owned, filled and run by one Mrs Lisa Storer whose passion lies in searching for unique and expertly crafted pieces from around the world. Also, a dream job if you ask me! The items she sources are rare and beautiful and she likes nothing more than to share the history of their communities with people who appreciate such exceptional
craftsmanship. In other words, you can walk into her shop, ask her about any piece and she will be able to tell you about it, which is so awesome because it makes you feel like you’re buying something really special rather than just yet another mass produced item created in a factory.

Koco Bino – Churche

A couple of months ago Churche (Adi and I) shot a Summer campaign for a local kiddies clothing label called Koco Bino. This little boutique makes the sweetest outfits for kids and babies and has everything from casual to christening wear as well as baby accessories.

We wanted to create a series that was playful and colourful, but still sophisticated just like the brand and I really like how these photos came out! On the day we did have to listen to ‘Let It Go’ quite a few times to get some of these tykes to perform, but it was totally worth it.

Churche – Peek

I’m so excited to show you guys the entire series that we (Churche) shot for a great initiative called Peek created by the Craft and Design Institute to showcase beautiful products made locally in South Africa. Peek has an online store that stocks a lot of really cool products made by an array of people who are located all over South Africa from city centers to rural areas.

We wanted to do something different in order to showcase some of the items you can buy on the site, so we ordered a variety of things that we liked and we made outfits out of them to use in our shoot. We then got the beautiful Gladys Brown onboard and shot on the amazing grounds of Hertford Country Hotel.

Grab ’em by the Imagination

I’m so excited to share this event with you guys, if you’re into local design then this post is for you! A group of eight amazing female illustrators and designers have come together to put on an exhibition titled ‘Grab ’em by the Imagination’ at Rialheim in Linden. The show itself will be open to the public tomorrow (Saturday the 26th of August) for ONE day only where you’ll be able to buy prints, original artworks, flash tattoos, patches, hand drawn tote bags, clocks and loads more awesome pieces which have all been created for this specific event. There are also eight once-off hand painted Rialheim ceramics that they will be auctioning off to the highest bidders, these pieces are all really cool so I’m thinking there is going to be a bit of a bidding war for them and the best part is that all the proceeds will be going to Women’sNet and NISAA.

Nina takes a walk down Country Road

I love taking photos of my Nina James, especially when I get to dress her up in super cute outfits from Country Road. I was invited to shop their new August/September kids range and I came home with some really nice pieces, some of which I wish came in my size, like this floral dress! How sweet?

They currently have some really cool items in store for both girls and boys, in fact, I had a bit of a hard time choosing stuff, but I really loved what I came home with in the end and so did Nina who was particularly taken by this dress, she kept doing twirls in it – she kills me sometimes.
