Sometimes having beady little eyes helps.

July 17, 2012

Sometimes having beady little eyes helps. Thought I would show you the 2 items I found at the recent antique fair I went to. They were well hidden but I managed to sniff them out and get them at a nice price too. I really love the silver flower one, I don’t have anything like it in my collection of shiny things – it reminds me of a photo corner that people used in albums back in the day.

Vintage bottle caps.

May 23, 2012

This is Gail Anderson’s vintage bottle cap collection. Damn it, why can’t things still be made like this? I meant it’s the smallest thing, but so much effort and consideration has been put into them to make them unique and rad. Gail, if I knew you, I would force you to let me ‘make it rain’ with these babies.

While I was looking around for some more hi-res pictures of these guys, I came across a embroidery project by Jennifer Sims. She used some of Gail’s bottle cap collection and embroidered bigger versions of them. I like them, I do.

One for you, one for me.

May 3, 2012

I was going through some of stuff the other day and I came across my old Hello Kitty compact from when I was a wee little child growing up in the suburbs. This thing gave me so much joy. I remember how I used to sit in the middle of a big rug my mom had in the TV room and comb the tasseled edges of it out with this very comb. I wouldn’t stop until each piece was dead straight – this was fun to me by the way ha!

Anyway I still have this little mirrored piece of my childhood and I still have one of my granny’s old compacts, that I have blogged about before. It was given to her when she was 19 by a suitor that really fancied her. Now days you get a friend request on Facebook and a high-5 if you’re lucky.

I thought I would photograph them together. I love the contrast of the 2 and the fact that they are both old and represent 2 very different times in each of our lives. My granny’s is over 60 years old and mine about 25 years years old. Damn I’m old.

The hunt.

March 29, 2012

On Sunday Stubs and I went to Kensington for a bit of an antique hunt. I bought about 15 beautiful antique plates for the shop, which are all hiding in the photos below. And then I bought these pretty pieces of costume jewelry for myself. I think I really scored in the loot departement. Man, coming home with shiny things is the best.

I thought I would try on all my preciouses. My poor blue shirt was like a wounded pin cushion after this exercise. Shampies.

Back in the day.

February 21, 2012

Saw the beautiful chocolate box up top today on this site, then I looked around a little more and found these other vintage packages. In the old days there was such attention to detail and so much craftsmanship that went into things. Not so much anymore. Can you imagine being confronted by such design bliss in the shops today? I wish.

I’m not going to lie, if chocolate came in packaging as awsome as this today, I would probably try eat the box too.
