Be amazing

April 17, 2018

I think I’m going to start this post off by saying that kids are amazing! Before I even had kids I thought that they were awesome and now that I have a brood of my own I’m even more convinced of the fact. Every day I look at them and I smile and feel so happy that these two humans have come into my life and made it better than it ever was in a very special and unique way.

I don’t have the best memory, which makes me really sad because I would love to be one of those people who remember things back when they were like 5 years old! I do however have very specific moments that I can recall that bring me such joy, moments were I can still remember a specific smell, like when I would get a new pack of Garbage Pail Kids, I can still remember their smell, it was a mix of new paper and the gum that came with them. Anyway, I guess where I’m going with this is that these days with my own kids I try my hardest every day, whether it be through a photo or something I jot down to remember just how amazing they are because I don’t ever want to forget. In fact I’ve actually started keeping a journal of all the awesome things Nina James says because some of them are priceless and just so sweet! A couple of weeks ago I asked her what she wants to be when she’s older and this is how she answered – ‘I’m going to be a big doctor and Rex is going to be a small doctor!’ And then a little while later when I asked her again she said- ‘I’m going to be a big elephant and Rex is going to be a star.’

I have always wanted kids (that’s definitely one thing that I can remember) and one of the greatest things that I get to witness through them is their ability to allow themselves to be whatever they want. I especially love watching Nina because she is at that age now where one minute she’s Minnie Mouse, then an invisible ninja and then suddenly a ballerina. I watch her playing and I feel all sorts of emotions when she does something new and is so proud to show us. In our house, nothing that she or Rex does is ever too small not to celebrate, yes I’m one of those parents that praises the smallest things because you never know what that might awaken within them later on down the line.

Both my kids are amazing because they are the only ones like them, nowhere in the world is there someone like Nina James or Rex, the way that they think or dance or sleep. They are each one of a kind and I’m sure that every mom or dad reading this will agree that their kid is one-of-a-kind and special in every little and big way possible.

You know people always warn you about certain things when you become a parent, they warn you that time will pass by quickly and before you know it your newborn will be a 2-year old and your 2-year old will be turning 10. They’re right about that. They also warn you that there will be challenging times, times when perhaps your kid and you won’t see eye to eye when there will be more angst than love for you when they won’t want you around as much, I dread these times. I know that they will more than likely come about in some degree or another but I know that no matter what happens I will always without a shadow of a doubt think that my children are amazing.

For now, though, I’m going to sit back and soak in everything that my children do and how they make me feel because unlike any physical or spiritual thing out there they have the ability to create pure joy that comes from the most beautiful place that is directed straight at me. And that is one thing that I will always tell everyone that I meet, children are amazing because when they say I love you it comes with no strings attached, it’s the most real form of emotion and nothing can mimic the feeling that it creates within you.

So here’s to celebrating kids and everything that they represent from the amazing to the imaginary to the way I wish we could all live our lives pretending to be Minnie Mouse, invisible ninjas and ballerinas!

Ps: Disney has an awesome range of Be Amazing products that you can order online from at Takealot that are perfect for fueling any imagination 🙂
