Baba G-5

New restaurant alert! I’m always so happy to put these posts up because I love new restaurants popping up especially when they’re in my neighbourhood! Everyone say hello to Baba G (short for Babaganoush). This awesomely designed little slice of chicken heaven lives in the Post Office Centre opposite Thupps and it serves some of the best damn free-range rotisserie chicken around, not to mention their Druze-style flatbreads which are made in house daily with unbleached, stone -ground flour.

Listen, this bread was so good I was considering ordering ten of them so I could fashion a duvet that I could sleep under as well as eat my way through during the night! They come with this amazingly fragrant Thyme, Sesame and Lemon Salt Zaatar, which was the perfect accompaniment.

Baba G’s menu is simple but packed with well seasoned and good tasting food and it’s pretty refreshing walking into a place and not being bombarded with a million options, just what they specialise in and specialise they do! Their chicken comes in three flavours, I had the Herb & Salt Chicken and Shane had the Middle Eastern flavoured one, both were tender and really delicious and the best part is you don’t have to wait long to eat, you walk in and order and literally a couple of minutes later your food is right in front of you.

We also each had a flatbread and then shared a salad which we put together by choosing a few things out their fresh Deli section. We had some Root Roast which was Roasted Butternut and Sweet Potato with Lime-Yoghurt Dressing and some Broc and Bean Salad which was made up of Brocolli, Green Beans, Tomatoes, Roasted Onions, Olives and Grand Padano. Both were great and complimented the main meal perfectly. You can also order a side of their signature Babganoush, Saracho Mayo or Chicken Gravy, all of which were really tasty especially the Babganoush. I think they need to bottle that stuff. You can also order their chicken in a Lafa Wrap, they were busy making one while I was there, that thing was busting at the seems it had so much goodness in it, I’m definitely going back for one!

Another item on their menu, which I loved was Homemade Lemonade and then this Peach and Apricot Slushie. Guys, the slushie literally made me feel like a kid again, there was just something about the flavour that took me straight back to my Primary school years when I was obsessed with New Kids On The Block and LA Gears.

My talented friend Shaun Hill and his girlfriend did all the branding for this new rotisserie and they did such a good job of creating a fun space that feels like it’s inspired by old-school takeaway ads and cartoons. I also love that the whole place is decked out in bright yellow and blue, it really makes it feel nice and unique.

If you do swing past let me know what you think, I’d love to hear if you think I’m mad for wanting to make a duvet out of their flatbread.
