Wowzers, how amazing is this lady’s work? I stumbled across Ana Teresa Barboza’s stuff when looking around Booooooom and I’m so happy I did. I have seen many an embroidered piece on this here internet, but non quite like these. They are so super cool and strange all at the same time and even though the subject matter is a little macabre, I still think they are really awesome pieces of art.
The kitten attacking the person’s face has got to be my favourite.
– Ana Teresa Barboza is interested in the different concepts she can arrive while using clothing or embroidery on her artistic work. Great part of her work concentrates around the human body. At the beginning she worked the body as a fragmented structure which she sewed and embroidered back into shape. The awareness of the human body and its stuffed organs were realized in a raw primal manner. From “Modes of Dressing” this concern to the body and its interior is displaced outwards, to her surroundings to concentrate on the links which tie her to others. She uses dress as a means of socializing, simulataneous to a metaphor of the human body. Graduated from Faculty of painting at the PUCP In 2010 she won First prize of Banco Central de Reserva and in 2006 the First prize for Pasaporte para un Artista.
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!
