What can I say about this young illustrator slash designer slash person who is amazing with anything that is art related? Shaun Hill is honestly one of the most talented individuals that I have ever met because he can swop and adapt his design and illustration style at the drop of a hat. I’ve always admired and secretly hated people who are really good at drawing and painting etc. It just fascinates me how they can literally pick up a pen and draw an object to look exactly like the real thing. I on the other hand can pick up a pen and draw something that may vaguely resemble a weeping pineapple even though it’s meant to be a chair!
New restaurant alert! I’m always so happy to put these posts up because I love new restaurants popping up especially when they’re in my neighbourhood! Everyone say hello to Baba G (short for Babaganoush). This awesomely designed little slice of chicken heaven lives in the Post Office Centre opposite Thupps and it serves some of the best damn free-range rotisserie chicken around, not to mention their Druze-style flatbreads which are made in house daily with unbleached, stone -ground flour.
Listen, this bread was so good I was considering ordering ten of them so I could fashion a duvet that I could sleep under as well as eat my way through during the night! They come with this amazingly fragrant Thyme, Sesame and Lemon Salt Zaatar, which was the perfect accompaniment.
My very talented friend Shaun Hill can draw like no one’s business! This kid is so talented that he makes me want to cry. You know those people who are able to just pick up a pen and draw anything you ask them to? Well, he is one of them which means I love him and hate him all at the same time. Jealousy will do that to you.
Shaun runs a site called Bat Butt Supermarket where you can buy all sorts of awesomely designed things from t-shirts to patches to zines and he has just brought out edition 4 of his Bat Butt zine which features over 90 artists from around the world, including amazing illustrators who are some of my all-time favourites like Nina Torr, Hannah Shone, Maaike Bakker, Amber Smith, Jackfox, Megan Bird-Steyn, Imile Wepener and Shaun himself, just to name a few. This zine also comes with a CD made up of 12 local bands, some stickers, a few foldout posters, a couple of matchbooks and not one, but two books that hold all the amazing drawings.
Trick or Treat is the latest exhibition up at Wolves Cafe. It started at the beginning of the month and is coming down on the 3rd of November and because it’s a Halloween the very talented Imile Wepener thought it would be cool to have a themed group illustration exhibition, which I’m very excited to say I’m a part of. Mine are the old vintage photos with the faces drawn on them, I had so much fun making them.
So if you pop in you can expect originals and prints from some of the best illustrators around, this show is a real treat so be sure to check it out.
