Everyone loves homemade pizza, right? Right.

Homemade pizza, what is there about this dish not to love? I say nothing because you literally get to make up any combination that you’ve ever dreamt about having on a pizza and you get to make it for a fraction of the price one would pay at a restaurant. Plus, it’s so much fun making your own dough and then decorating it before popping in the oven and filling the house with the smell of baking bread covered in awesomeness!

This week as part of my Munching Mongoose recipe series I’m going to share our go-to-pizza-dough recipe as well as a killer recipe for a homemade tomato sauce that will convince you that you’re at least a quarter Italian, even if you’re not!

Beetroot Rosemary and Boerenkaas Risotto

Beetroot-Rosemary-and-cheese-Risotto1

For the last few weeks, I have been sharing a series of recipes that I have developed using key ingredients from my weekly Munching Mongoose order which is always jam-packed full of the freshest, organic locally produced product. It’s been a month now of me using this delivery service and I must say I’m really enjoying it, I get so excited when my new bag of goodies arrive and I get to start thinking of things that I can make.

Up to now, all the recipes that I have shared have been really quick but this week when I was presented with the most beautiful looking ruby red beetroots I knew what I wanted to make and that was Beetroot Risotto. So I’m going to warn you from now that this dish is definitely not the quickest to make, but the end result is a creamy, rich beetrooty extravagancer that is well worth the effort.

Yet another week has passed which means its time for another one of my Munching Mongoose recipes. I’m not sure how many of you guys are signed up to Munching Mongoose or something similar, but this is the first time I’ve ever used a home delivery organic grocery service and I must say I’m really enjoying it! I’m also loving the fact that the owners are super serious about what they do and the products that they put out. I’ve learnt so much from them and knowing that the food that I’m getting is free of nasty things like chemicals, fertilisers, hormones, antibiotics etc and that they are all grown in healthy soils which means that the plants are more readily able to absorb nutrients makes me feel a lot better about the things that I’m feeding my family, especially my kids! It’s also so nice to receive things like prickly pears and pomegranates, (which were in this weeks bag) fruits that I never think about buying but are so damn delicious!  There is nothing quite like a cold sweet prickly pear.

So today I’m really amped to be starting a new series on my site together with an amazing local service that I use called Munching Mongoose who deliver fresh local, organic and SEASONAL produce straight to your front door.  I love being in the kitchen, but sometimes I don’t want to be in there for hours making stuff, so during this series, I’m going to be sharing quick and easy recipes with you for delicious homemade sweet and savoury dishes that won’t take up stacks of your time or use half your pantry!

Ever since finding out about Munching Mongoose and hanging out with my friend Nicole in the kitchen I have definitely become more aware of just how important it is to try to buy organic and as often as possible locally produced goods that are currently in season and not ones that have been picked too early, refrigerated and most likely artificially ripened preventing them from developing their full nutrient profile! I’m going, to be honest here and say that I don’t buy organic or locally all the time, but I am trying to change that and being part of this service has helped a lot. Plus there is just something so awesome about having fresh foods, homemade bread and milk in a glass bottle delivered to your house every week! Wouldn’t you agree?
