Lucky Song Friday – Joshua Kempen

This weeks Lucky Song Friday is by local Joburg artist Joshua Kempen. Josh has just recently recorded his debut EP with Thor Rixon in Cape Town and has just released his first two singles, ‘You Are The One’ and ‘Midnight ship. Both these songs are so pretty and so worth loads of plays. Josh’s music reminds me a bit of Devendra Banhart, Jeff Buckley and Vincent Gallo.

Josh congrats on your new tracks! I think you’ve done so well, I think I’ve played ‘You Are The One’ like 674 times, so if you noticed a spike in your Soundcloud plays, it’s me.

Lucky Song Friday – Shake It Little Tina – Low Cut Connie

I haven’t posted one of these in a while, but when I watched this music video on booooooom by Adam Carpenter, who has been dubbed the Instagram Dance King, I felt like I had to share it with you guys. It’s one of the best and craziest dance themed music videos I have ever seen. Adam’s ideas are so much fun and clever and the whole thing makes you want to get up and dance like a nutcase on a rooftop whose had waaaay too much vodka.

Judging by his Instagram account which is called Daily Dance, he likes to have fun and he’s now officially a part of my feed, because I think every one needs a bit of silly in their lives at least once a day.

I haven’t posted a ‘Lucky Song Friday’ in a long while, so this week I have a goody for you.

The other day Shane played me this song by Caribou called ‘Can’t Do Without You’ and I fell in love with it immediately. Now I can’t stop listening to it and when I’m not listening to it, I’m trying to sing it, which is not pretty.

Back in the day there was a local group called New Loud Rockets who hailed from Cape Town. They were a very cool band who unfortunately no longer exist, but today I really felt like listening and sharing one of my most favourite songs of their’s with you. Man, we used to dance hard to this song.
