Will someone please pass the 8mm remote.

December 3, 2010

The other day my friend Ryan, who I work with came in holding his dad’s old 8mm projector in it’s original case and everything. His dad came to him with it and asked if he knew anyone who would like to have it because he doesn’t have a use or the space for it. Ryan bought it straight to me and i’m going to put it straight on the shelf in the shop so it doesn’t have to be cooped up in it’s box ever again.

I googled 8mm frame shots and found this person’s flickr account – a friend of theirs bought some old 8mm film at an estate sale and they scanned some frames in. I wish I could recreate this feeling now with my own photos. I love how it all looks like a smudge of colours that form recognisable objects, like a lady in a car.  Maybe if I punch myself in both eyes and then look at my pictures I could get that effect.

In the box was one small piece of film from an old home movie. I took some pictures of it, how beautiful does the woman in black look? I’ve aksed Ryan to ask his dad who she is…

*Thanks Ryan for this awesome piece of your dad’s history.

Do you know if the 8mm projector still works? My parents have a couple of 8mm films and I never in a million years thought of actual looking for a projector for them, I’ve always just wanted to turn them into DVDs.

You must turn them into dvds and you must come past the shop and borrow this beast, if you live close-by. Man imagine how awesome that footage is.
