I love it when I stay in a hotel that doesn’t feel like a typical hotel and I especially love it when I can see that whoever owns the place has literally poured every ounce of their love into it and has considered everything from the smell when you walk in, to the art on the walls, to the shampoo bottles in the bathroom.

I was lucky enough to spend the night stretched out on a extra length (thank goodness because we all know how long my legs are) king sized bed in the very beautiful Teremok Boutique Lodge & Spa situated in Umhlanga Rocks. This more than captivating holiday home now turned 5-star luxury lodge was once filled with three generations of a Russian family called the Vladykins, but now belongs to Debbie Davidson and her daughters.

It was actually pretty amazing how from the minute I walked in I felt so welcomed and at home. It literally felt like I was visiting my extravagant Great Aunt who I only see once a year, but who loves me more than all her pugs and ex-husbands put together.

Teremok is full of all sorts of treasures, photographs, books, beautiful furniture, wallpaper and more. Only eight suites make up the lodge and each one is uniquely decorated and named after specific themes. I got to stay in the Milkwood suite, which was so pretty. The room itself was huge with a massive bed, bathroom, dressing area and balcony. I also couldn’t get over how big the shower was, I’m pretty sure that the entire Vladykin family, all three generations of them could of fitted into it.

This was honestly one of the prettiest places I have ever stayed in, I almost didn’t want to leave the next day. Not only is the attention to detail inside the hotel amazing, but it’s also surrounded by lush green vegetation and a pretty decent view of the sea. The staff at Teremok Marine also made such a great impression on me because they were extremely accommodating and nice and we found them baking fresh biscotti for us in the morning. I don’t think I have ever woken up to someone baking me fresh biscotti!

Another nice touch is their breakfast set-up. Even though the menu has some great options on it, if you feel like something that isn’t on it then the chef will whip it up for you in their open plan kitchen. Pretty cool hey?

If you are looking for a place to stay the next time you’re visiting Durban I highly recommend you treat yourself and book into this lodge. You won’t be sorry, sorry to leave perhaps but definitely not sorry that you stayed.
