Scarred-2

The project that I am about to share with you guys is one that I’m extremely proud of because a number of people have put a lot of love, effort and emotion into it. I’m also so thankful that I got to be a part of something that celebrates amazingly strong women who have taught me to appreciate life a little more, what with all it’s pitfalls, highs and lows.

My friends Adi Koen, Nicola Cooper and I got together a few months ago to create and shoot a series made up of sixteen phenomenal women (including Nicola) who have survived really traumatic and in some cases life-threatening events and now proudly wear the scars that represent those times in their lives as badges of honour.

We met with everyone to hear and document their stories and to photograph them and their scars, creating portraits and tributes that celebrate their journeys and triumphs. After we took their photos we then sent them to fourteen of South Africa’s most talented illustrators and artists and asked them to create a unique armour out of lines, paint and forms, cladding them in one-of-kind items of clothing designed specifically for them.

Maria Magdalena

 Maria Magdalena-1

The other day a lovely young lass by the name of Maria Magdalena sent myself and NJ a little parcel in the mail. Inside it was a beautiful limited edition print called ‘Alice’ from her Wander Collection. She drew it to represent the unconditional and overwhelmingly instant love that she felt for her baby niece that was born on 14 September 2014 – I think I can relate to that feeling.

Nina has a whole bunny collection going in her room, so this print fits right in perfectly and I couldn’t be more pleased with it, it’s whimsical and detailed and so pretty and it makes for such a nice piece in her room.

November 26, 2014

paper-jet-jersey

The Super Neat Exhibition by Paper Snap started at Wolves last week Friday and it got such an awesome response. All the prints are super nice and so affordable, so I thought I would post some pictures up of the work in case some of you want to order some online. The show only comes down in the middle of Jan BUT the guys who designed the stuff are printing orders as they come in, so that if you want to buy any as Christmas presents, you’ll be able to collect them before Wolves closes for the holidays.

All prints vary from R350 to R450. So if you are keen on any, please drop Tasha an email at hello@wolves.co.za

NINA TORR-6

Today I thought I would share some of Nina Torr’s work with you. She is a local South African artist that is one of my most favourite illustrators around. She has exhibited at Wolves a couple of times, as well as at a quite a number of other gallaries. She has a solo show coming up really soon and I’m going to make sure I’m first in line for it! I’ll let you know when it comes around, but for now enjoy some Nina magic.

– Nina Torr (AKA Andy Wyeth) is a Pretoria based illustrator/artist. She earned a BFA in Fine Arts from Parsons the New School for Design in NY in 2010 and is currently teaching illustration at The Open Window in Pretoria.

“Cards for Tigers” initiative by Cupcake Richard Cake Shop

August 13, 2014

tiger-postcard-project-11

Cupcake Richard Cake Shop is a tiny online, vegan & gluten free, cake shop, based in Cape Town, who love love tigers (all cats really) and are really passionate about tiger conservation. They have launched a Postcard Project, based on the WWF project, for rangers who are dedicating their lives to saving these awesome animals. They wanted to do something nice for them, so they got five of South Africa’s amazingly talented artists to each supply them with work to create a set of tiger inspired postcards. The following artists were kind enough to participate: Kirsten Beets, Maria Lebedeva, Wonder Meyer, Elsabe Milandri, Andrew Sutherland.
