After the Winter Sculpture Fair we all decided to try find a little spot on the way home for another bite to eat. We were all feeling like hamburgers and hamburgers are what we got, well those and some crazy Elvis action too. We couldn’t find anywhere that had space for us, all the restaurants were fully booked and so on the road back home we spotted this little roadside diner/bar named the Pitstop Diner that had a few bikes parked outside of it. It was cladded with old signage on the outside and the yard was full of vintage cars, petrol pumps and bikes, so we decided to stop. We were glad we did, even though this place was understaffed and full of hungry people, the inside was so charming and they had an Elvis impersonator which made us feel ok about the delay with our order, that and the fact that when we did get our burgers and chips they were huge and flipping delicious.
The afternoon turned out to be one of those unexpected happy times, where you land up doing something a bit out of the ordinary and it doesn’t end in tears or someone loosing an eye. Although Leigh and I were close to it every time Elvis came in for a little squeeze. Ha.
If you find yourself driving past this place (223 Beyers Naude, 2040 Honeydew, Gauteng, South Africa) stop and go in, you will definitely eat one of the nicest hamburgers you’ll ever smash your face into. The end.
